Job Description

The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Research Analyst to provide in-depth analysis of the cost structure of lithium and other battery raw materials mining. More specifically, the role involves gathering and interpreting granular data on the characteristics and costs associated with mining, processing and refining assets, benchmarking assets, and supporting strategic decision-making through comprehensive cost and market analysis.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

To support forecasts of battery raw materials:

  • Collect, maintain, and produce data on raw materials mining costs and production economics across various asset types.
  • Perform thorough desk-based research and analysis on mining, processing and refining assets globally.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining databases and models for cost curves and market analysis.
  • Deconstruct aggregate capacity projections by production facility, company, country and region.
  • Update databases and forecast models as needed based on inputs

To provide support for external and internal users of Fastmarkets’ supply, demand, capacity, production and cost forecasts:

  • Assist the forecast and analytics team with content for subscription and consulting projects.
  • Support the product team’s development of forecast products.
  • Data contributions for presentations at industry events and forums.
  • Contribute to consulting project work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

We are seeking a highly motivated and driven individual with a passion for being part of a fast-paced, successful team. The ideal candidate should be a strong team player and flexible in their work approach.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or experience in a relevant discipline (geology, mining, metallurgy, engineering, economics, or business).
  • Experience or familiarity with the mining industry, raw materials and chemicals production and  downstream manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in cost analysis, financial modelling, or commodity markets.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and Excel; familiarity with mining cost databases is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
  • Interest or experience in the mining and raw materials industry or battery sector preferred.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English.
  • Use of Artificial Intelligence for research and analysis a plus.

Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including advanced Excel skills.

  • Comfortable working and collaborating in a diverse, multicultural environment
